Back from Spring Break
Oh, we made so many jokes about Cancun, but instead we went to Bethesda. By now we have gotten good at knowing that Max and Abe do NOT need official tourist activities, but instead thrive on attention, small toys, being given jobs, and going outside. See below:
It was good to see the children again, as the first half of my second semester at Sloan has been grueling. I realized that I have never actually looked for a job before in any sort of way that would have taught me how to go find one that wasn't clearly being offered to me. I think I picked a nice time to try job hunting for the first time: a depression. In addition to my six classes, this kept me busy enough to miss a lot of dinners and such since January.
But a vacation, even one with raking, is still a vacation. I didn't do any work and mostly just blew bubbles.Or had them blown at me. Either way, beats revising a resume. We also went to the zoo, slept through the Natural History Museum, and played with the kids.
Now we are back in the routine. Max smelled a school day coming on Sunday night and started to freak out a little, which was disconcerting - 16 more years of Sunday nights, my young friend - but he pulled it together for school. We have been taking the train, which he loves to do, although it normally involves falling off an escalator. Abe was not worried, as he has a big crush on his day care teacher and we think he just assumes she is another parent of his.
Some of my classes ended and so my schedule eased up a little. Finding a job also helped, although the ink isn't dry (well, it's not even wet) on an offer letter yet, so we'll just wait a bit to really celebrate. Still, it looks like the job hunt is over. My semester is now filled with projects for companies instead of so many classes. One project involves trying to help a publisher make money on Facebook, so that ought to be a piece of cake. Another is for the Environmental Defense Fund and is much more likely to generate revenue. Hmmm.
I will leave you with a guessing game: which of these is our child, and which is the Buddha?
